Nigel Pears was a Director of Makinson Cowell, the independent capital markets advisory firm, from 2006-23, where he advised clients listed on the FTSE 100, 250, AIM and international stock markets on their investor communications. Prior to joining Makinson Cowell, Nigel spent over twenty years at UBS and various predecessor firms, where he worked in insurance sector investment research, UK equity sales and corporate finance. Nigel holds an MA in economics from Cambridge University and an MBA.

Liz joined the IR Society in January 2022 as head of policy and communications. Liz qualified as a lawyer with Linklaters, where she practiced in the corporate tax department for five years. In 2003, Liz joined the technical strategy department at the ICAEW where she was responsible for policy, representations and member guidance on various aspects of business law including company law, distributable profits, insolvency, data protection and workplace pensions. Liz graduated from the University of Oxford with an MA in Biology.

Previously he was Head of Investor Relations at Euromoney and Kingfisher. Before his IR roles he was an advisor at a financial communications consultancy and an equity analyst in the City.

Phil Corbett

Philip Corbett was appointed Head of Investor Relations at Jadestone Energy in August 2021. Prior to that he was Head of IR at GasLog Ltd. and GasLog Partners LP between January 2018 and April 2020, and was a top ranked IR professional in the Institutional Investor All-Europe Executive Team (Oil & Gas Exploration and Production) survey in 2015, 2017 and 2018. He was also Head of IR at Genel Energy following a career as a sell-side European E&P analyst at Deutsche Bank and RBS (formerly ABN AMRO) in teams that were regularly top ranked by Institutional Investor and Excel. He also had sell-side roles at Oriel and Numis after starting his career at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein. He has a PhD in Statistics from the University of Warwick and a BSc. 1st Class in Mathematics from the University of Cardiff.

Amie has over 15 years’ experience across Investor Relations and Capital Markets. She is currently Head of Investor Relations at FTSE250 payments business, Network International. Previously, she spent six years as the Head of Investor Relations and Corporate Affairs at Pets at Home plc. She specialises as an IR for newly listed companies. She started her career in equity research, covering the healthcare sector at UBS in London and at Morgan Stanley in Sydney.

She graduated from the University of Leeds, with an honours degree in German and management studies.

Patrick McNamara

Manager, Board & Governance, Morrow Sodali

During his time at Morrow Sodali, Patrick has worked on projects with financial institutions, direct finance institutions, private companies and NGOs in Europe, MENA, Latin America, and emerging markets. He has conducted multiple corporate governance assessments, including for banks, MFIs, and the largest state-owned oil and gas company in Ukraine, among others.

Patrick recently co-authored a Report with the FRC examining the influence of proxy advisors and ESG rating agencies on the actions and reporting of FTSE350 companies and investor voting.

He has worked on projects with central banks in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, reviewing and amending their supervisory approach and corporate governance regulations for financial institutions. He has led multiple board evaluations, including for EBA Clearing and the UN PRI, and delivered corporate governance and ESG training sessions to boards and senior management to clients including BII, FMO, Triodos, the EBRD, the Central Bank of Kosovo, Genfit, and Swissquote.

Prior to joining Nestor Advisors, Patrick worked in banking and academic research. He has a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Oxford [2017] and an M.A in Security Studies from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. [2019]. He is a native English speaker and proficient in French.

Angus Prentice is currently Director of Investor Relations at Spire Healthcare Group plc, a FTSE 250 listed independent healthcare company. His career spans accountancy, corporate broking, agency communication and in-house investor relations. He has a strong track record for delivering solutions and advocacy for a wide variety of businesses and organisations.

Angus has held several senior in-house communication roles, having been Head of Investor Relations at Hogg Robinson Group plc (a position he held for 11 years prior to the company’s takeover and subsequent delisting), Senior Director of Investor Relations at NYSE-listed Travelport Limited and, more recently, Director of Investor Relations at Reach plc.

Angus has spent a large part of his career working in communications agencies. He was previously a Partner at Brunswick Group, where he was responsible for the firm’s global investor relations practice, and an Associate Director at Bell Pottinger Corporate & Financial and at Makinson Cowell, a specialist investor relations consultancy. During his time in agency, Angus has provided tailored advice to a wide variety of UK and multinational clients across several industry sectors.

Angus is particularly interested in helping companies improve their sustainability reporting by focusing on material ESG factors and their links with corporate strategy and the business model. Angus was awarded the Certificate in ESG Investing by CFA UK in 2021 [validation here].

Angus trained as a chartered accountant at Arthur Andersen & Co before moving into corporate broking at Kleinwort Benson Securities. He has a BA (Hons) degree in Accountancy and Economics from Leeds University.

Douglas is Group Investor Relations Director at Lloyds Banking Group, having led the team for the last eight years and been a senior member of the team at Lloyds Bank and subsequently Lloyds Banking Group for the last fifteen years.  Prior to joining the Investor Relations team Douglas held management positions within Group Strategy, Group Risk and Private Banking having initially joined Lloyds Bank on the graduate development programme. 

Douglas was elected to the Board of the IR Society in 2016.

Jennifer Walmsley

Partner - Dentons Global Advisers

Jennifer is a partner based in London. She specializes in advising companies and investors on managing the increasingly complex area of ESG. She brings almost 20 years of experience in this area and deep insights from multiple perspectives having been a journalist, an investor, a regulator and an advisor.

Jennifer joined Dentons Global Advisors from Teneo, where she founded the ESG practice in London, advising management teams and boards at some of the largest companies and investors globally on building effective stakeholder communication and engagement strategies. Her previous roles include Hermes Fund Managers, where she led the ESG team until 2015 and the UK Financial Reporting Council where she was Head of Investor Engagement.

Her client experience includes financial services, real-estate, energy, retail, and industrials. Jennifer is also a member of the investment committee at The Big Exchange and a trustee of a learning disabilities charity.
