IR Society 2018 Best Practice Awards entries open today

IR Society remains committed to driving excellence in Investor Relations

The IR Society today launches its 18th Best Practice Awards (“Awards”). Judged by a panel of esteemed investor relations and investment community professionals, the Awards recognise companies’ best-in-class demonstration and thought-leadership of clear and consistent investor communications.

The Awards comprise both self-entry and voted Awards. IR teams can now submit self-entries for awards rewarding best practice in investor relations in the following five categories:

  • The Grand Prix award: Best overall communication of company investment proposition
  • Best annual report
  • Most effective integration of ESG
  • Best digital communications
  • Best IPO IR communications

This year, following a review by the IR Society’s Best Practice Committee, we are pleased to announce we are launching a new award for ‘Most effective integration of ESG’. This is adapted from our previous category of ‘Most effective integration of sustainability’ and greater reflects the evolving environment in investor engagement on environmental, social and governmental issues, as businesses are expected to adopt a more thoughtful and pro-active approach to a wider societal purpose.

Awards will be presented to FTSE 100, FTSE 250, Small Cap & AIM, and international companies, in recognition of the diverse range of companies looking to the UK for excellence in IR.

For the Voted Awards, which recognise excellence in individual and team investor relations, the IR Society is delighted to be working in partnership with Extel, an Institutional Investor company, helping us to address a wider audience and voting universe. We are now accepting nominations for:

  • Best newcomer to IR (individual)
  • Best IRO (individual)
  • Best overall company IR (company)
  • Best Investor Engagement (investor)

The latter award is decided by company IROs for an investor/buy-side firm that the investment community believes represents the leader in investor engagement with companies.

David Lloyd-Seed, Chair of the IR Society, commented: ‘Now in our 18th year, these prestigious awards are a celebration of companies that are leading the way in capital markets engagement and excellence, building trust, and strengthening corporate reputation. IROs are on the front line as MiFID II makes its mark and thus it has never been more important to ensure our winners have a well-articulated and easily understood investment case. The judges reward innovative communications that drive enhanced engagement with audiences and that ensure company key messages resonate with investors.’

Sallie Pilot, Chair of the Best Practice Committee, said, ‘The experience, involvement and collaboration of our diverse Best Practice Committee helps ensure that the Awards remain meaningful, relevant and have a broader reach across the profession. The new award for ‘Most effective integration of ESG’ reflects the increasing recognition from wider stakeholders that ESG factors are material to financial performance. We encourage entries for the Awards to demonstrate this by including both financial and material non-financial factors as part of their overall approach to best practice investor communications."

The 18th Annual Best Practice Awards' entries are open to all companies from today, 12 April until 30 June 2018 for both the self-entry Awards and for nominations for the voted Awards.
