Meet the team: Thayeba Hussain
What brought you to the Society/What did you do before you joined?
I joined the Society in April 2026, and before that I worked in various chartered membership bodies and learned societies. I mostly held membership roles, namely at BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, the UK Cyber Security Council and the Chartered Institute for Linguists, among others. I have a keen interest in the fintech space, having worked within IT, so when I saw the opportunity at the Investor Relations Society, it deepened my curiosity to work alongside the financial community.
What is your role at the Society?
I am the Membership Executive at the Society, responsible for onboarding new members, overseeing all membership enquiries and processing membership applications. I engage closely with our members to deliver high quality value and member experience and ensure that membership is at the heart of what we do here at the Society.
What excites you most about the work you do?
I enjoy building networks with people from various backgrounds; those new to industry to higher level. I value listening about members career paths and asking questions to help me understand where our members are coming from. This excites me because we get to work with a diversity of professionals who value their work as much as we value them. I make the most of meeting people at events because I look forward to having engaging conversations and feeling part of the community.
What do you think sets our organisation apart?
The community. The IR profession can be known to be a very lonely place and as a Society, it’s our mission to make our members feel part of the growing community and ensure everybody are equally engaged in the activities we deliver. We take pride in our breakfast meetings, IRO socials and the annual conference because we believe our members and non-members have a collective belonging to the ever-growing industry. Our mentoring programme is an excellent way for members to receive support and build relationships, and previous members can vouch for that.
What keeps you motivated in your role?
The support of my team genuinely keeps me motivated. We’re a small team with big plans who bring fresh ideas and never shy away from answering questions and supporting one another. Collaborating with IR professionals who give their time to you are truly valued and are who drive us to do better as a membership organisation.
