Sell-side research has been through a tumultuous few years since MIFID II mandated unbundled pricing in 2018. This resulted in institutions slashing their research budgets, which in turn impacted coverage levels and research quality. These changes are now being part reversed but there is more uncertainty on the horizon with the rise in Artificial Intelligence and it remains to be seen whether this will help, hinder or replace traditional equity research.
