Ahead of The Investor Relations Society Annual Conference 2026, we sat down with one of our panellists, Kelly Murphy, to find out a bit more about her and her thoughts on the upcoming event. Kelly will be joining Plenary 2 - Insights from the Buy-side.

Tell us a bit about you and your role

I’m an investment analyst and research director at Capital Research Global Investors, part of Capital Group. I cover European small and midcap companies as a generalist and I also have large cap research responsibilities for Gaming, Hotels & Catering.

Why do you think the theme of ‘IR as a Trusted Advisor’ is so important this year?

IR can be an important partner for investors as we build conviction in an investment, and trust is integral to this partnership on both sides. The theme also alludes to finding ‘opportunity from uncertainty’ which is a great description of what all investors are trying to do – identify an area of market uncertainty where we have conviction on the outcome and invest behind that conviction.

What insights will you be bringing to your panel?

I can speak to some of the ways that investors and IRs benefit from partnership on both sides. Investors can gain helpful understanding of the company, industry and management mindset, while IRs can benefit from investor knowledge of companies across the broader investment landscape and market sentiment. The investment role and process is undergoing constant evolution with changes in technology and market structure and I look forward to speaking about these trends as well.

Are there any other sessions you are looking forward to joining?

It looks like a great agenda with speakers from across the spectrum – investors to IR to board members. It should be a great day!
