What is your role at the Society?

I am the Financial Controller of the Society and have held this position for the past 15 years. What started as a practical role turned into something I took increasingly ownership of: preparing management accounts that guide our planning, ensuring nothing slips through the cracks, and helping the committee make decisions that keep the Society moving forward. It has become a surprisingly meaningful part of my life.

What brought you to the Society?

My path to the Society began when I stepped away from the garments manufacturing industry. I was looking for a role that felt more personal, somewhere I could use my financial skills in a way that supported a community rather than a commercial operation. The Society felt like the right fit from the very beginning, and it’s become something I’ve really enjoyed being part of ever since.

What is one thing you’re especially proud of that you or the team has achieved recently?

I don’t think of any achievement as mine alone - our successes come from collective effort.

We are very proud of our recent rebranding process and the introduction of a new CRM system which has given us a real boost and helped us work more efficiently and cohesively as a team.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

That’s a very easy one: people. My colleagues create such a welcoming atmosphere. It’s the everyday interactions with the teamwork - the conversations and shared moments - that make this place feel truly easy to settle into.

Over the years, I’ve come to know the rhythms of the Society. When things get busy, when people need help, when a gentle nudge helps us stay on track. It’s taught me patience, consistency, and the value of the ‘behind the scenes’ work that keeps a team going. Being trusted with that responsibility for so long is something I’m genuinely proud of.

In addition, our members are genuinely the loveliest people to be around and over the years I have built a great rapport with many of them, which brings an extra sense of warmth and purpose to my work.

How has the Society changed since 2011?

From the inside, the change has been remarkable. What once felt like a steady, measured pace has grown into a dynamic, fast‑moving effort to deliver more value for our members.

I’ve worked with five CEOs during my time here, and each one has laid a foundation for the next, helping the Society evolve into the organisation it is today.

What developments or innovations are you most excited about this year?

Continuing to build and add to the new CRM which is by no means a small feat for a team of this size, and one that will shape how we work and support our members in the years ahead.

What’s something people might not know about you but should?

That I would have loved to be a painter. I still dabble in painting whenever I can, and I’ve also spent years exploring cake decorating, even entering a few international competitions along the way!
