Get the recognition you deserve by entering the IR Society Best Practice Awards

Rachel Price, IR Society Best Practice Committee member highlights what judges are looking for in one of the Society's Best Practice Awards, 'Most effective overall communication of company investment proposition.'

It’s a real privilege to be part of the Best Practice Committee at the Investor Relations Society and we are pleased to announce that the 2019 Best Practice Awards are now open for entries.

The promotion of best practice in IR is one of the cornerstones of the IR Society's existence, and the annual Best Practice Awards, now in their 19th year, plays a crucial part in this.

The Awards recognise those companies that have demonstrated their strong understanding of, and proactive efforts to promote clear and consistent investor communications. Each year we see the quality of the entries improve and we believe this helps to raise the bar as new best practices emerge.

The IR Society’s Best Practice Committee, is made up of a broad cross-section of companies and industry players, while the judges for the awards are drawn from the investor relations profession and investment community.

This year we have refined the Award requirements and criteria to ensure they continue to reflect changes in the operating and regulatory environment, and we have also added a new self-entry award, ‘Best IR communications in a corporate transaction'. As always each category has separate awards for FTSE 100, FTSE 250, Small Cap & AIM, and international companies.

The award for ‘Most effective overall communication of company investment proposition’, which I was involved in draws together elements from all of the other self-entry awards. The investment proposition narrative is the ‘golden thread’ that runs through all corporate communication channels and represents the highly compelling narrative that clearly and consistently explains a company’s competitive advantages and differentiators – ultimately resulting in heightened engagement with equity and debt investors.

The investment proposition narrative will be evident across many different channels. From the Annual Report and investor presentations, to Capital Market Days, corporate websites and moving image to name just a few. While communicating this ‘golden thread’ narrative well is no small feat, the benefits of doing this well are clear.

The judging panel will be looking at the content, clarity and consistency of the investment proposition messaging across the key channels, along with how it links to the market, strategy, business model, sustainability of the business and risks. The winners from last year, as listed below, were commended for their clarity of messaging, innovative approaches and comprehensive narrative on their investment proposition.

FTSE 100 – British Land
FTSE 250 – RDI REIT
Small Cap & AIM - ESB
International – Valmet

So if you believe your company is doing a great job at communicating with investors about just what it is that makes your business unique, make sure you receive the recognition you deserve by entering the IR Society Awards. Entries must be received by 30 June 2019 and the winners will be announced at the IR Society Annual Dinner on 19 November. We hope to hear from you soon!
