2020 Member Survey

Many thanks to all those who took the time to complete our recent membership survey, conducted in partnership with QuantiFire. Your feedback forms an essential part of our planning for the year ahead and allows us to focus our efforts where they are needed most.

Although members join the Society for a wide range of reasons, the main drivers continue to be: access to best practice information, keeping up to date with the latest developments, networking opportunities and professional development and we will continue to meet these needs through our online resources, weekly and monthly email newsletters, Informed magazine, our busy events programme and our full suite of professional development courses and internationally-recognised IR qualifications.

Engagement levels are high and we had almost 100 members volunteering to speak on courses and events, or to join one of the Society's committees. If this is something you would be interested in, please get in touch. Although overall attendance on our virtual professional development courses has been a little lower than we would like, the migration of our courses to an online environment has been extremely well received with 96% of course attendees rating the format as 'Good' or 'Very Good', and almost 90% rating them as  'Good' or 'Very Good' in terms of value for money.

We are delighted that overall satisfaction levels remain high, and we will continue to work on those areas where there is room for improvement. It was particularly gratifying to see that 90% of members are 'Likely' or 'Very likely' to recommend membership to a friend or colleague - please continue to do so whenever you have the chance!

Key challenges for the year ahead will include: ensuring good engagement in a virtual world, effective communication of the ESG narrative, managing guidance and consensus in a uncertain environment, and the continuing changes to working practices as a result of the pandemic. Wherever possible we will be working to help our members to share their experiences and address these issues.

QuantiFire are preparing several reports off the back of the survey which will look at changes due to COVID and the increasing importance of ESG, and we will share these shortly.
